United Methodist Women

UMW Purpose

“The organized nite of the United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

All women who are members of the church are considered members of the UMW. The purpose of the executive-planning committee is to plan events/activities that further our purpose and will be interest to a larger segment of the church.

“Women today are pulled in many directions, whether they are working in or out of the home, caring for a family, volunteering in our church and community. Now, more than ever, we need meaningful relationships with other women…” (quoted from 2011 report)

Our emphasis on outreach requires fund raisers. Previous successful fund raisers have been the Spring/Easter sale of candy and cookies and the Chicken and Biscuit dinner with craft sale. Those events, and the donations of individuals, provide the monies that we share locally and globally.

Two other hands-on emphases are hygiene kits and school bags that are filled and then distributed thru Church World Service.

Red Bird Mission Coupons

Please remember to put your Red Bird Mission Coupons in the box outside the church office, for the benefit of the Red Bird Mission.

On the U.M.W. bulletin board you might have noticed a sign showing bar codes and corporate labels for Education. They represent some of the coupons you may turn into the church to benefit Red Bird Mission.  Red Bird Mission is located in the Appalachian mountains of Southeastern Kentucky.  The mission empowers individuals and advocates justice by providing educational, health, and community outreach.  Coupon Labels may come from Campbell’s (only include UPS label and the product label), General Mills Box Tops for Education (cut the whole box top), and Tyson Project A+ Labels for Education (just the label). Look on the bulletin board for some of the items that are covered by the coupon program.  This year our church sent 300 box tops for education and 1200 Campbell soup label points to Red Bird.  These points go for sports equipment, vans, technology, as well as other education related materials.  Put your coupons in the basket by the church office, and watch your mission contribution grow.
