Outreach

“If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. When God’s children are in need, be the one to help them out.” Romans 12: 7, 13

The Outreach Work Area of the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville is based upon these bible verses. Outreach is the steering committee of the church for programs and projects such as: Christmas presents for needy families, Crop Walk, Service Auction for the Syracuse University Chaplaincy, water for the homeless in Syracuse, and many others. The Outreach Work Area is reaching out to our community and beyond.

Backpack Ministry – Each month we collect items to fill a backpack for a person in need. Donations of non-perishables, snacks, toiletries and clothes are welcome in the backpack in the Narthex. For more information, please contact the church office (315-637-4413).

Missionary Trip To Nicaragua – Harry Gill will be visiting Chacocente, Nicaragua from January 26th—February 7th, 2017. Several other church delegations will be in that area simultaneously, including a Medical Clinic funded by UMCOR; and Belinda Forbes, who is from UM Global Ministries. Harry is requesting donations for clothing and shoes, sizes: infant to 6 years old, to take with him on this journey for the children in that village. There is a great need for supplies and basic necessities within that region, any donations/gifts will be going directly with him on the plane. A collection bin is in the Narthex for those who would like to help! Follow him on Facebook, ’Harry Gill’, for daily updates from his amazing stay!

F-M Community Outreach can use the following items: regular size cans of fruit, regular size cans of meat, regular size jars of jelly, regular size cans of spaghetti sauce, boxes of cereal. Place donations in the box provided in the narthex.

F.I.S.H. “Friends-in-Service Here” serves the Fayetteville-Manlius-Minoa community by providing volunteer drivers to seniors in need of transportation to medical and dental appointments. Driving for F.I.S.H. not only helps those in our community, but allows the driver the opportunity to meet some wonderful seniors who could not live independently without such service. Drivers may elect to be scheduled one day each month or to be called on an as-needed basis. They may be reimbursed for mileage if desired. Please consider giving up a little time to drive for F.I.S.H. It can be very rewarding for the driver. Interested? Please call 315-637-1938.

Oxford House needs donations of used towels, face cloths, sheets and pillowcases.  In addition, they can accept hotel-sized personal hygiene items (shampoo, soap, shaving cream, etc.) Place donations in the box provided in the narthex.

Samaritan Center – LET’S MAKE SANDWICHES! The Outreach Committee gathers to make sandwiches for the the last Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM. Donations of peanut butter and jelly are also appreciated.

Scrap Metal Mission Collection – Harry Gill is collecting scrap metal (cars, major appliances, small items, computers and electrical cords) to recycle for funds for Outreach. If you have any of these items to contribute, please call Harry Gill, 315-278-1380. Leave a message and he will contact you. If the items are small, bring them with you to church and he will pick them up. All funds collected from this will go towards Outreach. Thank you, Harry, for this mission.
