Dear FUMC members and friends:
Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ who is still Lord of our lives.
I hope that you are well and that you are finding meaningful ways to take care of your souls.
A colleague recently shared these words with me as I was seeking guidance on how to do the work of ministry in these challenging days:
“As leaders, we must commit ourselves to helping everyone understand that a reopening plan is not designed to go back to the way we were before but to discover the “new normal” of what we must become. The issue is not whether or not we can/should change. Rather, the issue is how we must change in order to properly care for the people under our care.”
Last night, the Task Force met and we assessed our approach to the soft reopening that we experimented with from September 20 – October 11. During this period we welcomed back those who came out to in-person worship. For the health and safety of all and to be in compliance with the guidelines, we implemented a sign-up system to guide our safety practices. We are well aware that many of you are still not comfortable gathering for worship and so we will maintain our online presence. So please click the following link for the worship experience. http://fayettevilleumc.umcchurches.org/?page_id=1408
Over the past four weeks, we have learned many things on how to safely be in the sanctuary space. Thanks to all of you who came out. Beginning this Sunday, October 18, we continue to welcome you to the in-person worship experience. We are eliminating the sign-up process. So, if you are comfortable being in person, please join us for worship in the sanctuary at 930am. If you have any questions please call the office at 315-637-4413. We look forward to seeing you.
This Sunday, we also begin our stewardship drive. As tough as these times are, your faithful giving and generosity is remarkable. Thank you.
Would you stand firmly in your faith, believing that with God, all things are possible? If so, then lest look to God with confidence, to lead us and guide us through these times. Let us rejoice in the midst of it all, knowing that our God is indeed a generous and awesome God.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
I don’t know about you, but each year I receive unsolicited cards and calendars. As you receive these please consider setting them aside for the Prayer Shawl Ministry Group and AARP. These are then given to folks along with a lap robe at Christmastime. If you are returning to church this month you can put the calendars and cards in a box that has been placed just inside the front door. If you are not returning just yet feel free to call Cora Reals and she will be glad to pick them up. Thank you for your help.

Crop Walk: Are you walking for CROP and hungry people? Please do, soon. Remember to contact friends, relatives, and neighbors for financial gifts to help this food drive. Funds needed by Oct. 16th. Thank you.
Dear FUMC Members, Friends and Neighbors,
As a result of the pandemic, people worldwide, and here at home, are experiencing food insecurity in unprecedented numbers. It is vital that those of us who can help, acknowledge this as a call to action.
To answer the question, “What can I do?”, I’m inviting you to join your neighbors in participating in the 2020 CropHunger Walk.
This year the walk will be accomplished virtually. Each faith community/neighborhood may decide how they can best participate. It might be families walking around their neighborhood, or close to the church or even a county park. Your walk should be completed at any time between October 1st and October 18th.
25% of the funds raised will help support 10 local agencies addressing food needs. A summary of those missions is enclosed/attached. 75% of the funds raised will be distributed worldwide through Church World Service. The goal this year is $2020 in commemoration of the unprecedented and unusual year.
Start lining up your sponsors now. Grandchildren could ask their grandparents. There are two ways to donate: online at www.crophungerwalk.org/syracuseny, by check using a donation envelope, that I can provide, or using your own envelope. Checks should be made out to CWS/CROP and clearly denoted CROP-FUMC. The team/organization name for online donations is “FUMC”.
Donations may be mailed to:
Fayetteville United Methodist Church
601 East Genesee Street
PO Box 158
Fayetteville, NY 13066.
Thank you very much for your generous participation.
