This is the last Sunday of our experiment with the soft opening. The task force will be meeting on Wednesday October 14 to reassess what was learned during this experiment and report to the congregation in next week’s newsletter what/how FUMC will proceed with in-person worship. Please remain prayerful and patient as we plan to move forward.
Thank you.

The Annual Pumpkin sale here at FUMC is coming to a close this weekend. Please, if you haven’t already done so, come and grab your pumpkin before they are all gone.
Once again the sale was successful. Thank you to Judy Buskey and everyone else whose dedication and hard work make this annual event a success.

This Year’s Stewardship theme is: The Generosity Challenge. Please see the attached letter for more details.

This year’s annual conference was very different due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Eleventh session of the Upper NY Annual Conference was held as a one-day virtual session last Saturday October 3. Only the necessary business of the Annual Conference, as outlined in the Book of Discipline of the UMC, was cared for. Here is a link that gives a summary of the annual conference: https://www.unyumc.org/images/uploads/2020_AC_notes.pdf

Our annual charge conference will be held on November 16, 2020 at 630pm. More details in the upcoming weeks. Carly and I will be working together to get all the reports in by the deadlines. If you are a committee chair, please be prepared to give your annual report.

Please continue to pray for the health and safety of one another (the church, our wider community, our government).
Please be careful and safe in your daily lives.
Please know that you are prayed for often by me, the district and conference leadership.

In the moments when you feel like you cannot take or bear it anymore – whatever “it” is, remember and react to this bit of wisdom: “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” – Desmond Tutu

FUMC Pumpkin Sale

Pumpkin sales this past weekend were good, and we were able to add $1000 more to our total sales. This coming weekend is our 4th and final chance to support this FUMC project. If you are available to help with sales, please use SignUpGenius online or call 315-637-9411. Thank you to each of you who bought and/or sold pumpkins. Your help is very much appreciated.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

I don’t know about you, but each year I receive unsolicited cards and calendars. As you receive these please consider setting them aside for the Prayer Shawl Ministry Group and AARP. These are then given to folks along with a lap robe at Christmastime. If you are returning to church this month you can put the calendars and cards in a box that has been placed just inside the front door. If you are not returning just yet feel free to call Cora Reals and she will be glad to pick them up. Thank you for your help.

Outreach Committee

Crop Walk: Are you walking for CROP and hungry people? Please do, soon. Remember to contact friends, relatives, and neighbors for financial gifts to help this food drive. Funds needed by Oct. 16th. Thank you.

CROPWALK 2020
October 1-18

Dear FUMC Members, Friends and Neighbors,

As a result of the pandemic, people worldwide, and here at home, are experiencing food insecurity in unprecedented numbers. It is vital that those of us who can help, acknowledge this as a call to action.

To answer the question, “What can I do?”, I’m inviting you to join your neighbors in participating in the 2020 CropHunger Walk.

This year the walk will be accomplished virtually. Each faith community/neighborhood may decide how they can best participate. It might be families walking around their neighborhood, or close to the church or even a county park. Your walk should be completed at any time between October 1st and October 18th.

25% of the funds raised will help support 10 local agencies addressing food needs. A summary of those missions is enclosed/attached. 75% of the funds raised will be distributed worldwide through Church World Service. The goal this year is $2020 in commemoration of the unprecedented and unusual year.

Start lining up your sponsors now. Grandchildren could ask their grandparents. There are two ways to donate: online at www.crophungerwalk.org/syracuseny, by check using a donation envelope, that I can provide, or using your own envelope. Checks should be made out to CWS/CROP and clearly denoted CROP-FUMC. The team/organization name for online donations is “FUMC”.

Donations may be mailed to:

Fayetteville United Methodist Church
601 East Genesee Street
PO Box 158
Fayetteville, NY 13066.

Thank you very much for your generous participation.
