From the Task Force:
The Task Force met on 7/15/2020 via Zoom and is issuing this report to the members and friends of FUMC.
A survey was sent out via email and snail mail and here are the results:
There were 59 responses. Overall these responses indicate that there is reluctance to come back to in-person worship right now. The survey indicated that,
- 48.8% would not be comfortable coming back to in-person worship right now, i.e. 25-30 of responses.
- Pre-recorded online worship services will continue throughout the month of August.
However, the survey responses also did indicate that there is interest in some sort of in-person gathering for social interaction and connection. After a lengthy discussion about meeting that need, the Task Force has decided that for the 5 Sundays in August, we will continue to offer online worship services and as an addition to the needs indicated in the survey, we will add a Sunday noonday gathering on the lawns of the church, weather permitting.
What will this look like? We are asking those who wish to be a part of this gathering to watch the online worship service on Sunday morning at 930am on youtube. At noon that same Sunday, bring your lawn chair/blanket, your own Bible and a brown bag lunch. Wear a mask and come to the church premises. We will assemble on the church lawns, (weather permitting) sit six feet apart and Pastor Rhonda will then facilitate a conversation based on that Sunday’s sermon.
Why are we doing this? Because we have high regard for the health and safety of our members and friends. And we are doing this based on the results/responses to the survey.
When will this gathering begin? Sunday August 2, 2020, 12-1pm
Where will this gathering be? On the front lawns of the FUMC.
Who can gather? Anyone interested in gathering in this setting and who will willingly abide by the safety guidelines for this gathering.
Will there be access to the restroom? Yes. Only one family restroom in the building will be opened during the hour.
At this time the building will not be used for gatherings of more than 50 people.
The Task Force will continue to plan for the re-opening of in-person worship as it becomes safer to do so.
This is by no means an easy time for any of us in this context where we have been so used to gathering for worship and connecting our faith in real-time. But then again, we are by no means living in easy times.
May the God of our lives and our salvation watch over us and between us while we are physically apart. May we be bound by love, compassion and understanding as we live and move and have our being in these different days.
Be well. Be safe. Be blessed.
